Passaic History & Character
Founded in 1873 and powered for a century by the textile mills along the Dundee Dam, Passaic was once known as 'the Wool Capital of the U.S.' That industrial wealth left behind block after block of late-1800s and early-1900s housing — three-story Victorians, Italianate two-families, and stone-faced brownstones near the historic Main Avenue district that still need expert roofers and chimney masons today.
